I lied, ok? I fibbed about posting a review on the Benefit makeup kit.
I mostly lost motivation after seeing how it really didn't match my skin. They make a few kits so you can try the product, but don't make it in my Casper shade, the light is still about 2 shades too dark. It would be great for my summers, but in the middle of December, it's not really light enough.
See? There's my review, kind of. I'll get to it, eventually.
I've decided it would be exponentially more fun to be French, so I've decided that's my resolution for the new year: Be More French. (When I say French, I don''t mean modern couture French, I mean like An American in Paris. Like Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.)
So, I'm not really sure how to accomplish this resolution, but I'm definitely going to give it my best shot, because why not? Majority of people make the same resolution "get fit, lose weight, clean more, spend more time with family, quit smoking, learn something new, etc.", but I seem to always go against the grain, because why not? Be more French is a perfectly swell resolution.
I hope I can stick to documenting this, because blogging more regularly is not one of my resolutions..
XOXO

My Body is Ready
Winter.
Prepare yourselves, I can only assume since last winter was very mild, that this winter will be horrendous! So, I will provide you with a list of all my winter favorites and must haves, just to help you prepare.
1. Sweaters. Of any kind. Dresses, striped, fuzzy, oversize, cropped, cable knit, or of the ugly Christmas variety.
2. Socks. Again, any kind. I love novelty socks with Hello Kitty or Adventure Time characters.
3. Slippers (see #2).
4. Scarves, hats, gloves/mittens. AKA outdoor warmth accessories. If they don't match/coordinate, it's best.
5. Boots. I believe there are two kinds of boots that are necessary for "snow dwellers"; the reliable snow boot, and the cute boot(knit mukluks, wedges, etc).
6. A velvet dress. I can't link you, this is something you have to fall in love with.
7. Red lipstick.
(WARNING: The rest is kind of up to you/self explanatory.)
8. A good book.
9. A good cocoa/cider recipe.
10. A sunny disposition, since the weather is not so.. Especially with the rude shoppers scurrying around.
11. Lots of family time.
12. Pearl stud earrings, for when you feel fancy in the winter, and it's totally allowed, anytime.
13. Quality time spent with friends.
14. Pet sweaters, especially for small dogs/cats that might be prone to chills.
15. The giving spirit.
16. Extra blankets.
17. Button down shirts to layer under your fabulous sweaters.
18. Black jeans.
19. Lots of tights, again novelty tights are always great.
And that's it, because having an even number or a multiple of five is too "mainstream". Which reminds me, take a tip from the hipsters this winter and wear lots of layers and hats.
Stay warm!
XOXO,
Babette

Clothing Sale!
Through my FB album. Hopefully I can do some more of these, soon!

Hate Me.
Ok, you can hate me.
I ran into a few problems over the past week or so.
Allow me to elaborate.
1. My parents are unable to afford the college that I wanted, due to the price of living in the city of Chicago, especially when the school I chose did not have dorms/housing.
2. I couldn't find any jean jackets or good sweatshirts at the thrift store.
3. I couldn't locate ANY clothing spikes at JoAnn Fabrics or Pat Catans, and we have no Michaels in my area.
4. When I ordered the spikes, they're going to take a few weeks to ship. Redonk.
All in all, it's been rough.
Theres a new outfit on my Polyvore page showing how to style a velvet maxi dress I purchased from Sweet Lorain (a vintage shop in Cleveland).
I'm sorry, readers, but this college stuff is really beating the poo out of me.

Jumpstart
I'm getting a jumpstart. Or a jump..back.
Heres my updated list of wants..
1. A perfect pair of bf jeans.
2. A perfect pair of black jeans. Not gray, not faded. Black.
3. Casual, thick sweater.
4. Comfortable t-shirts in my favorite prints.
5. A pair of long term ballet flats.
6. A heavier weight jean jacket.
7. Perfect leggings.
So, let's move up the sweater, shirts, and get rid of the leggings.
I bought two fabulous pairs of black jeans, one high waisted, one bootcut from Charlotte Russe. They were having a jeans sale and they had a 20% coupon for purchases over $50.
I altered a jean jacket, and plan on posting a how-to sometime this week, you're not allowed to see. It's a surprise. I want to factor in a studding tutorial, too.
I have t-shirts, but not enough, and not all of them are comfortable.
I want to pack things I'll actually wear for college, especially since we'll be driving to the school and have limited car space.
I'm going way too slow on this list.
More college updates and a how-to later this week.

I Am So Over It
Totally over being 'trendy'.
I want a lasting wardrobe.
Just thought I'd share that tid-bit and a link to my Polyvore page.
So you can be in with the 'in crowd'.
Keep up.

We're Going to College! Maybe.
Chicago, here I come. Let us cross our fingers.
I'm ready to take the next step in my life, meaning moving out, going to college, etc.
I'm mostly worried about my cat. I'll have to get him a buddy so he won't be lonely.
So, Harrington School of Design, it's gorgeous, it's vertical, it's in an amazing city, I want it sooo badly.
I had my first phone interview this morning, and my second one later this evening.
Wish me luck in two ways, getting this college thing snagged and convincing my dad Captain needs a friend.
Fashion posts soon.

What a Girl Wants.
Poor Amanda Bynes. (see title).
I want to completely change my sense of fashion to be more comfortable and more of my own.
I don't want to buy trends that I'll throw away next season, although my age statistically dictates I will.
I want to be more mature in my fashion.
Every (maybe) Thursday I'll check off or add things to my "New and Improved Wardrobe" list.
I say perfect, because I have a body shape that hates jeans. All hips, butt, and thighs with a smaller waist. Lots of gapping at the waist or "it wont go past my thighs". I hate jean shopping.
There will be more, but I plan on taking a shopping trip sometime this week.

Terribleness
I'm getting bad at this blogging thing.
I'm sick. Pity me.
I spent a lot of time at the zoo last week.
Here, have some cute.

Some Trends
After Fashion Week, we're probably all a bit jumbled on what we should incorporate into our outfits and what we shouldn't.
For example, there was a "nipple trend" on a lot of runways.
Honestly, I don't advise or encourage the nips to be out and about this coming spring.
The no pants dance, and the extreme print pants.
Diesel Black-Gold, Marc Jacobs, Theory, and Gerlan Jeans
Peter Pilotto
And Embroidery. Your grandmother's favorite trend will be back this (fall&) spring.
I'm not elaborating.
A few blogs with great trend posts:
Man Repeller
Puseblog
(Great for bag trends (as indicated by their name)).
Go forth and bare those nips, and remember to shave your legs!

Makeup-ish Monday
Before we get to makeup I want to set out a list of goals, and since you can see them, I'm obligated trying to follow through with them.
1. Be more social, when I go places, I usually keep to myself.
2. Make some new friends, I love the old ones, but I need variety.
3. Be more positive. A given.
4.Try to be nicer.
5. Get serious about what I'm doing after graduation.
There! Keep me in check!
If you aren't TOO bored, this is my favorite makeup look from the runway this week.

Lanvin Fall 2012
I don't know what it is about all over black, catty eyes I love, but man I love it. A how-to Wednesday with this look? Maybe.

Oops.
I've missed a few days, sorry! I'll make it up with a Things I Love Friday Saturday.
Jean jackets, just in general, and it's super hot here, but I can't help myself. The lake, not really a product, but one of my favorite places to spend my summers. Braids, any kind, I've been mermaid tailing lately, colored flares (I have them in burgundy), and preparing for fall, again not a product, but all the same, I love it.
I love fall, I love the color palettes, the sweaters, the scarves, the weather, the constant pumpkin smell, Halloween, Thanksgiving, everything about it is fun. For me, fall is spring, it's a new start, rather than just an end to summer. Hopefully this fall I'll get a lot of things off my checklist.. Which I'll post soon!

Trends and Dilemmas
Just.. I can't. No. Maybe in a different color. And print. And shape.
Rodarte Fall-Winter 2012-13
I've been on trend watch for fall and I've been seeing tons of things I like. Maybe. Since theres a lot to cover, let's start with what's being called "granny chic". Sometimes granny is good, like when she sends you cookies. I don't think dressing like the Queen of England is really the best fashion choice for anyone (with the exception of the queen).
Here's a much more pleasant way to go granny.
Lyn Devon Fall-Winter 2012-13
The only thing better than the grandma look is the grandpa look.
Ralph Lauren Fall-Winter 2012-13
RL, why? Why did you do this to me? I love Ralph Lauren but he's been making a LOT of mistakes. The Olympics mishap, Romney's Yarmulke.. RL, what are you thinking? Stop.
I guess this fall and winter are going to be full of eccentric pieces, that look wrinkly. But more fashionably, "rumpled". My advice is to pick an eccentric piece and style it down. Printed sweater? Wear it with some plain trousers and fabulous shoes. Don't dress like you're on the runway to go to work, dress like you just so happened to own this and "Oh is this old thing is in style now?"
One more quick tip, don't over do the tweed!
Tory Burch Fall-Winter 2012-13

Monday Madness
I've been really minimal with my makeup, summer heat and a full face of makeup are NOT friends. A touch of bronzer (it smells like chocolate!) and a wisp of mascara, sometimes to get fancy, a lip stain. However, if you ARE going to wear a full face, make sure to prime, and carry powder and oil blotting sheets.
Product of the Week: MAC's Morange
Summer Tip: Make sure carry some product with you, in case of makeup meltage, you want to be able to fix that pretty little face of yours.
XOXO,
Babette

Things I Love Friday
These Dittos Bold Over Jeans from ModCloth. J'adore the color! It's the perfect summer blue, in my book. This parfait pair of rainbow Jeffery Campbells, I am in love with his designs and want to buy ALL of them. They make me feel like Rainbow Brite! The artwork of Smithe/Graffiti & Illustration. This adorable crochet top from Luna Vintage, I'm really diggin' their site. And lastly these adorable little cat collars by TheGlamorousCat on Etsy!
